38 and pregnant, SURPRISE ATTACK! Due November 10. Being back in the maternity seat has me reconnecting with my desire to be an advocate for a balanced approach to pregnancy and childbirth between obstetrics (when indicated) and midwifery. I almost *was* a midwife, but when my first marriage fell apart shortly after my son was born, I chose a different path: I'm a writer.

Now that I'm remarried and expecting again, I suspect I'll be writing about pregnancy and childbirth more.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not good at taking advice or congratulations gracefully. I tend to rant incoherently at times about things that are frustrating me but it doesn't mean I need to be told what to do. I like to vent. This is a good place for me to do so.

But it also makes me cautious about adding new friends that I don't know well, who don't know my propensity for getting irritated about being told things I already know. So if you understand that and are still interested in hearing the adventures of the now-expecting Doodlefamily, booyah. Say hi.

DISCLAIMER THE SECOND: I have the mixed blessing of knowing thousands of people, which often results in my being asked the same question several hundred times a week. It's not easy for my progesterone-addled brain to handle, and I've joked that (a) Twitter should change its default question for pregnant women from "what are you doing" to "how are you feeling" because it seems that's all anyone is interested in anymore, and (b) that I need to wear a white board on my chest that says, "Yes, I'm pregnant, no, I don't know what it is yet, yes, I'm going to find out when I can, no, you can't touch my belly, I'm due sometime in November, and I'm feeling overwhelmed."

My main account is helcat, but it is not a public account and I don't friend strangers there (or even, at times, people I do generally consider friends -- a girl needs her quiet space, sometimes).
